An Open Letter ~ to those I leave behind

Dear Family and Friends,

Someday, my friends and family, I will be gone. Whether I pass through the shadow of death or am snatched away by God to glory, I belong to Jesus Christ and He is my Savior and Lord. I will be with Him forever.

There will come a day when the wrath of God will fall upon the earth. As Scripture says: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth” (Romans 1:18).

When that happens, all who belong to Christ will be removed from the earth and spared those years of tribulation. For we read in 1 Thessalonians 5:9, “For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,” and in Revelation 3:10, “Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.”

If, in reading this letter, you discover that those who confessed Christ have all disappeared, then I beg you to find yourself a Bible and read the book of Revelation. It is all there, everything concerning the wrath of God. And even in the midst of the final outpouring of God’s wrath against sin, He STILL offers you salvation. There is a call for you to repent of your sin and believe on the Lord Jesus for eternal salvation. Someday it will be too late!

If you’re reading this and Christians are still around, please find one and ask: “What must I do to be saved?” God’s word tells you, God’s people know and if you can find a church that is grounded in the Word of God, then please go there and ask how you can be born again. Jesus said it like this:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God…. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” ~ John 3:3, 16-21

If you have nowhere else to go, please reach out to me and I will tell you all that Jesus did in bearing the wrath of God and taking upon Himself the punishment for your sins and mine. He bore the entirety of God’s eternal wrath that you should be saved. But you MUST believe and thus yield your life in faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul speaks to this in the book of Romans:

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. ~ Romans 3:23-26

It is not about self-imposed religion. God condemns all religions that lead people to trusting in their own works for salvation. It’s not about establishing a high moral code that you can try and prove that you’re good enough to be acceptable to God. No one is. All have sinned. Only Jesus lived without sin. The rest of us, all of humanity, must repent of our unbelief.

Confess Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead. That is what we find again in God’s word:

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” ~ Romans 10:8-13

I implore you, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved! Your sins can be washed clean. Your life can be made new before God. He loves you and will redeem you if you come to Him by faith.

As I said at the beginning of this treatise, that day will come when I will depart this world. Whether I pass through the shadow of death or am snatched away by God to glory, I belong to Jesus Christ and He is my Savior and Lord. I will be with Him forever. Do not let this day pass without knowing that you belong to Jesus Christ as well.

In His Grace,
Michael
